Your new company
Hays is delighted to have partnered with a busy local authority seeking to appoint a Senior / Chartered Town Planner to support their development management team on a temporary contract basis. The initial contract is expected to last approximately 3 months, with potential for extension.
The role involves hybrid working, requiring 2-3 days per week in the office near Glasgow, so applicants should reside within a commutable distance.
Your new role
As part of the development management team and reporting to the Principal Planner, you'll process a high volume of local development and householder applications and provide planning advice on various issues. You will ensure applications comply with relevant legislation, policies, and good practice, and develop effective relationships with partners, consultants, and internal teams involved in project delivery. A comprehensive understanding of the development process is essential.
What you'll need to succeed
- An RTPI-accredited (or equivalent) undergraduate or postgraduate qualification, preferably with Chartered RTPI membership.
- At least 2 years' post-qualification experience in development management.
- In-depth knowledge of the Scottish planning system.
- Familiarity with IDOX Uniform or similar case management systems.
- Strong organizational and prioritization skills.
- Excellent communication skills for liaising with colleagues, clients, and stakeholders.
- A full UK driving license and access to a vehicle.

The hourly rate is negotiable, approximately £25.50 - £28.50 per hour PAYE, in-scope of IR35.
