Hays are delighted to have partnered with a busy local authority who are looking to appoint a Senior / Chartered Town Planner to assist their development management team on a temporary contract basis. This will initially be a short-term contract, expected to last approximately 3 months. However, there could be scope to extend beyond this.
You will be expected to work from the office on a hybrid basis 2–3 days per week, so applicants should live within a reasonable distance from Glasgow.
Your new role
Working as part of the development management team and reporting to the Principal Planner, you will process a high volume of local development and householder applications, providing planning advice on various planning issues. You will ensure applications are assessed under relevant local and national planning legislation in accordance with statutory obligations, policies, and best practices. Developing effective working relationships with development partners, consultants, and internal teams involved in project delivery will be essential, along with a comprehensive understanding of the development process.
What you'll need to succeed
- An RTPI accredited (or equivalent) undergraduate or postgraduate qualification, ideally with Chartered membership of RTPI.
- At least 2 years' post-qualification experience in development management.
- Detailed understanding of the Scottish planning system.
- Familiarity with IDOX Uniform case management system (or similar).
- Motivation and organization skills to manage your own caseload.
- Strong communication skills to liaise effectively with colleagues, clients, and external stakeholders.
- A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.

Hybrid and flexible working arrangements are available, with 2-3 days per week in the office and the rest remote. Part-time applications are also welcome.
The hourly rate is negotiable based on experience, approximately in the region of £X - £Y PAYE. Please note, this role falls within IR35 scope.
