Job summary

BakerHicks is seeking a Principal Structural Engineer to lead high‑impact structural delivery across major mission‑critical projects in the UK. You will guide multi‑disciplinary teams, ensure technical excellence, and own the delivery of complex structural solutions within demanding programmes.

You will mentor engineers, shape design output across diverse sectors, and contribute to Tender and scope development while upholding safety and buildability standards.

Qualifications

• Chartered Engineer status with MIStructE/CEng or equivalent qualification is required.
• Proven capability to lead structural design teams and multi-package delivery.
• Strong understanding of UK structural codes, standards and assurance processes.
• Security clearance eligibility (SC) to work on defence and related sectors.
• Experience across steel, concrete, masonry and timber structures; foundations and substructures.

Responsibilities

• Lead delivery of structural design across large projects or multiple workstreams.
• Mentor and develop design teams; ensure resourcing and support.
• Oversee calculations, drawings, reports, specifications and digital models for quality and consistency.
• Review designs as technical authority and provide strategic direction.
• Develop programmes, manage budgets and change control; support tenders and scopes.
• Report performance and insights to senior leadership and drive buildable, sustainable design solutions.
