Job summary

AtkinsRéalis in the United Kingdom is seeking a Chartered/Senior Bridge Engineer to lead high-quality civil and structural designs for new builds, renewals and maintenance within our Bridges and Civils team.

You will collaborate with national and international design teams, manage design documentation, mentor juniors and support bids while delivering projects across the UK and Ireland with a hybrid working model.

Qualifications

• A degree in Civil or Structural Engineering or a related discipline.
• A professional qualification (CEng/IEng) and membership of the ICE or IStructE.
• Experience of working with key clients such as Transport Scotland and National Highways, Network Rail, local authorities as well as major Contractors and Developers.
• Good understanding of relevant design standards (e.g. Eurocodes, DMRB, MCHW and Network Rail standards).
• Practical knowledge and experience of bridge design, maintenance and assessment.
• Experience of structural analysis software packages such as LUSAS, MIDAS and Autodesk Structural Bridge Design.
• Proven knowledge in design, maintenance and supervision of structures related projects together with a track record of innovation in design and management of highway structures.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to converse with a wide range of clients, stakeholders and colleagues across a number of engineering disciplines.
• Good project management skills, commercial awareness, financial control and ability to deliver across a range of contract types. This will include an ability to manage stakeholders, e.g. specialist suppliers, independent checkers and local authorities.

Responsibilities

• Develop high-quality civil and structural designs for new constructions, renewals, maintenance, and assessments.
• Collaborate with national and international design teams, using your expertise and leadership to create positive, sustainable impacts on society and the environment.
• Manage the production and review of high-quality design documentation, including sketches, drawings, calculations, reports, and specifications.
• Independently carry out technical work and provide guidance to junior staff members.
• Lead teams in the design, assessment, and maintenance of structural projects, and providing structures related input on multi-disciplinary projects.
• Develop and agree scopes and manage the internal technical supply chain, including budgets, programme and quality of deliverables.
• Use analytical skills to derive potential solutions to engineering problems and engineering judgement to appraise different options and recommend the most suitable option.
• Lead bids and tenders, winning work and developing Client relationships.
