Job description

Selden Centre is looking for a friendly, fun, supportive, motivated leader to help them on their journey to outstanding care! Are you a Staff nurse, charge nurse, or ward manager looking for a new opportunity? We may have what you are looking for at the Selden Centre.

Working from home and feeling isolated from your colleagues? We can bring the fun back into going to work. You will be supported to make the change if you're a mental health nurse, as many skills are transferable.

We have a band 6 charge nurse position available due to a staffing restructure, part of our continued service development. Whether you're an RNLD or RMN, we can utilise your current skills and support you to acquire new ones. Training specific to supporting people with learning disabilities is available as part of your induction if this is not already part of your skill set. We have a robust and well-established team eager to work with you.

The Selden Centre is a 10-bedded hospital providing high-quality assessment and treatment for adults with learning disabilities, primarily in the Sussex area.

The centre employs a multidisciplinary team of healthcare staff.

If you want to work somewhere where your ideas are heard and your development is supported, please apply and/or contact us.

Main duties of the job

We are part of a trust that offers specialist training programs tailored to enable professional development, quality improvement, and better care for our service leaders. We believe in 'no health care without self-care,' supporting and investing in our staff. This includes robust supervision packages with 100% compliance, and we are the winners of the staff support champion award for 2020/21.

The post holder will work as part of a multidisciplinary team, acting as care coordinator for a defined number of service users. Responsibilities include:

  • Undertaking assessments of individuals with complex mental health presentations, including those presenting with higher levels of risk, and developing care and recovery plans in collaboration with the service user.
  • Offering specialist nursing assessments and advice where required.
  • Providing clinical and managerial leadership on the ward.
  • Assessing and managing ongoing risks identified during assessments, in collaboration with service users and carers, and regularly reviewing risk factors.
  • Supervising junior staff and trainees where appropriate.
  • Taking charge of the clinical environment during duty shifts.
About us

As a mental health trust, Sussex Partnership prioritizes staff wellbeing and ensures reward packages reflect the importance of their work. Benefits include:

  • Access to full psychological support via our internal wellbeing team
  • Excellent supervision and ongoing training opportunities
  • The chance to join the current winner of 'Clinical Team of the Year'
  • Flexible working options
  • Discount schemes for gyms, shopping, restaurants, and cars
  • An 'Outstanding' rated trust for caring and 'Good' overall by the CQC
  • Generous holiday entitlement (starting at 27 days + 8 bank holidays)
  • Excellent NHS Pension Scheme
  • Trust's £2,000 Golden Hello or Relocation Incentive for Band 5-6 Nurses & Practitioners (pro rata, subject to terms)

To protect health and safety, we encourage our workforce to be fully vaccinated against COVID.

Job responsibilities

Main duties include overseeing and delivering high-standard evidence-based inpatient nursing care at the Selden Centre, in partnership with the team, service users, and their families/caregivers. This role involves:

Shift rotation working days, nights, and some weekends.

Taking charge during shifts, managing support workers and professionals, assessing and managing risks, supporting interventions, liaising with MDT, family, and carers, ensuring effective communication and handovers, and maintaining clinical records.

Undertaking assessments, developing care and discharge plans, managing risks, acting as the Primary Nurse, ensuring practice aligns with NICE guidelines and Trust policies, supervising staff, and maintaining confidentiality.
