Job overview

Are you an RMN with experience working with adults with complex mental health problems?

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 nurse to work in Woodlands Acute unit Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, Hastings.

The successful candidate will be working on Castle Ward which specializes in men's care and is a relatively small acute ward. Castle ward's team is supported by Abbey Ward team that work next door in a 14 bed acute female unit.

Both wards have undergone recent structural changes in order to provide a safe environment for both patients and staff. Current feedback from patients tells us that the provision is a great improvement and allows staff to be out in the ward environment with the patients and have the time to nurse, which has a major positive impact on patient recovery time.

This post offers the Trust's £2,000 Golden Hello or Relocation Incentive for Band 5-6 Nurses & Practitioners (pro rata and subject to terms and conditions; please see attached Protocol Document for full details).

Main duties of the job

Band 6’s at Woodlands also incorporate the role of the unit co-ordinator and the 136 nurse for our Place of Safety on a rotation basis in addition to working on the wards. The role will be supporting junior staff with supervision, working closely with the multi-disciplinary team and role modelling. The role also supports the management team by undertaking governance checks on the wards such as clinical audits and taking the lead in clinical areas. We pride ourselves on the high standard of care delivered to people that have been detained by the police and brought to us for a safe assessment of their mental health needs, so there would be training and ongoing support from the ward managers across the unit in order to maintain this high standard and make you feel supported in delivering this role.

Our patients are keen for new nurses joining the team to demonstrate empathy, time to talk, and listen.

Working for our organisation

We are very proud of our standards and are looking for someone who is ready to learn and keen to develop. An important attribute is the ability to adapt to evolving change in order to facilitate excellent clinical care.

In November 2018, Woodlands was recognized at the Trust's Positive Practice awards with a Gold medal in the Team Award (clinical) category, an outstanding achievement for the team.

In 2021, Woodlands was part of the Hastings services that received the Highly Commended Covid Response Team of the year.
