Job summary

Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Band 7 Biomedical Scientist to manage the cellular pathology department at Salisbury District Hospital. The post focuses on technical leadership, quality oversight and ISO 15189:2022 accreditation.

The role involves supervising staff, allocating rotas, providing training, and ensuring high standards in histology including dissection and immunohistochemistry. HCPC registration is required.

Qualifications

• BSc in Biomedical Science or equivalent.
• MSc in a relevant subject, MIBMS or equivalent experience.
• IBMS Specialist portfolio and HCPC registration are required.

Responsibilities

• Manage multiple sections of the service as technical lead.
• Check and maintain quality across the work, detecting problems and taking remedial action.
• Manage daily staff rotas for work allocation across scientists, new staff, students and support staff.
• Support training and supervision of biomedical scientists, trainees and support staff.
• Maintain technical standards through internal and external QA schemes to ISO 15189:2022.
• Manage servicing, calibration and validation of department equipment and instruments.
• Lead the team alongside the training officer in a complex, busy department.
• Develop professional expertise and specialist skills, and foster a culture of continual learning.
• Support delivery of a high-quality, safe and compassionate healthcare service.
