Job summary

Brandon James is recruiting a CDM Principal Designer in Leeds. The role leads design risk management across a varied portfolio and interfaces directly with clients, designers and contractors to embed health and safety from the earliest design stages.

The successful candidate will coordinate design teams, review technical information, and take ownership of CDM compliance, with opportunities to influence service development and progression within a growing consultancy.

Qualifications

• Experience delivering Principal Designer duties under CDM 2015.
• Strong knowledge of CDM 2015 regulations.
• Proven ability to manage design risk across projects.

Responsibilities

• Acting as Principal Designer under CDM 2015
• Leading the design risk management process
• Reviewing drawings, specifications and technical information
• Identifying and communicating foreseeable Health & Safety risks
• Preparing and maintaining Pre-Construction Information
• Creating and managing project design risk registers
• Chairing design risk workshops
• Coordinating Architects, Engineers and other Designers
• Advising clients and duty holders on their responsibilities
• Maintaining clear records of design decisions and actions
• Supporting the continuous improvement of CDM processes across the consultancy

CDM Principal Designer

A growing and ambitious construction consultancy is looking to appoint an experienced CDM Principal Designer to join their team in Leeds.

The successful CDM Principal Designer will take a leading role in managing design risk across a varied portfolio of projects, working directly with clients, designers and contractors to ensure Health & Safety is considered from the earliest stages of design.

This is a particularly strong opportunity for a CDM Principal Designer who enjoys having ownership of their projects and wants to join a consultancy where they can have a genuine influence on how the Principal Designer service develops.

The CDM Principal Designer Role

The successful CDM Principal Designer will lead the coordination and management of design risk throughout the pre-construction phase while acting as a key point of contact for clients and multidisciplinary project teams.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Acting as Principal Designer under CDM 2015
• Leading the design risk management process
• Reviewing drawings, specifications and technical information
• Identifying and communicating foreseeable Health & Safety risks
• Preparing and maintaining Pre-Construction Information
• Creating and managing project design risk registers
• Chairing design risk workshops
• Coordinating Architects, Engineers and other Designers
• Advising clients and duty holders on their responsibilities
• Maintaining clear records of design decisions and actions
• Supporting the continuous improvement of CDM processes across the consultancy

The Successful CDM Principal Designer

The successful CDM Principal Designer will ideally have:

• Strong experience delivering Principal Designer duties
• Excellent knowledge of CDM 2015
• NEBOSH Construction Certificate or equivalent
• APS and/or IOSH membership
• A degree or equivalent qualification in Construction, Architecture, Engineering, Health & Safety or a related discipline
• Experience reviewing drawings and technical design information
• Strong design risk management experience
• Excellent client-facing and stakeholder management skills
• The ability to independently manage multiple projects
