Job summary

Exeter and North Devon College in Barnstaple is seeking a proactive Catering Technician to support our Lifestyle, Health & Education teams. You’ll help prepare kitchens for practical classes, manage stock, check deliveries and ensure food safety and cleanliness so sessions run smoothly and safely.

You will be involved in food preparation, equipment setup, stock control and assisting with deliveries, with a focus on teamwork and continuous improvement in a busy teaching environment.

Qualifications

• Experience working in a catering environment.
• Understanding food safety, storage and temperature control.
• Knowledge of food, beverages and catering equipment.
• Able to calculate food quantities accurately.

Responsibilities

• Prepare kitchens and restaurant service areas for practical classes.
• Ensure ingredients, equipment and resources are ready.
• Prepare basic food items, including stocks and sauces.
• Support stock control and date labelling procedures.
• Assist with deliveries and checking incoming goods.
• Serve tea and coffee for meetings when required.

One minute you'll be preparing ingredients and setting up practical classes, the next you'll be managing stock, checking deliveries, or ensuring everything is spotless and safe at the end of a busy session. What You'll Be Doing: As a Catering Technician, you'll play a vital role in supporting our catering and hospitality teaching team by: Preparing kitchens and restaurant service areas for practical classes Ensuring ingredients, equipment, and resources are ready to go Preparing basic food items, including stocks and sauces Supporting food safety procedures, stock rotation, and date labelling Assisting with deliveries and checking incoming goods Helping maintain stock control systems Serving tea and coffee for meetings when required, This is an opportunity to be part of a team that helps students develop real-world hospitality and catering skills.
