Job summary

Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Catering Assistant to join its facilities catering team. You will help prepare and serve meals, maintain high standards of cleanliness and food safety across all dining areas.

Responsibilities include receiving and checking deliveries, preparing vegetables, fruit and salads, operating the dishwash and restocking vending machines. The role follows a two-week rota with shifts 9am–2pm, Monday to Friday.

Responsibilities

• Maintain cleanliness across all work areas in line with HACCP policies.
• Receive, check quality, temperature and quantity of deliveries for orders.
• Prepare vegetables, fruits and salads.
• Prepare and dispatch meals and serve food in the restaurant and dining areas.
• Restock vending machines and operate the staff dining room cash register.
• Operate the central dish wash machine and ensure crockery and cutlery are cleaned and dried.
• Assist with service of food to staff and monitor temperature levels as required.

Job description

We have a position available for a Catering Assistant to join the team. As part of this role, you will be required to maintain the standards of cleanliness as specified throughout the work areas, by means of approved methods. This Vacancy will be a two week rota.

Working a shift pattern Monday - Friday 9AM - 2PM

Please note that it is a requirement of NHFML that all successful applicants pay for their own DBS certificate, if a DBS check is required for the post. The method of payment is a salary deduction from your first monthly pay., The successful candidate will be responsible for receiving, checking for quality, temperature and correct quantity as per order to suppliers, and the storage of such goods in the appropriate area within the time limits set out in the department policy on Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP).

To be able to demonstrate the ability to serve food to staff and to be able to check temperature levels and be aware of the Food Temperature Regulations.

Operating the central dish wash machine, cleaning, drying and checking of the staff/ward crockery and cutlery.

Preparation of vegetables, fruits and salads.

Preparation and dispatch of meals.

Service of food in restaurant.

Service of food in the Dining Room and associated areas and preparation of sandwiches, hot snacks and beverages where applicable.

The cleaning and re-stocking of vending machines.

Operation of the Staff Dining Room cash register.
