Job summary

NHFM is seeking a cleaning operative at Hexham General Hospital to maintain high cleanliness standards across wards, departments, corridors and offices. Various contracted hours available from 15 to 22.5 hours per week, with opportunities for additional shifts.

You will follow approved cleaning methods, carry out deep cleans where infection is present, remove waste, and support training on hygiene and safety.

Qualifications

• Basic numeracy and literacy skills required.
• NVQ Level 1 or 2 or equivalent qualification.
• GCSE Maths and English (or equivalent).
• Basic Food Hygiene and/or Level 1 Food Safety Certificate, or to be achieved within 6 months.

Responsibilities

• Clean floor areas by vacuuming, mopping, buffing and spray cleaning.
• Undertake deep cleans in areas where infection is present.
• Remove rubbish including domestic and clinical waste to disposal point.
• Clean sanitary areas, toilets, sinks and staff changing areas.
• Damp dust surfaces, ledges and shelves; clean internal glass.
• Maintain high cleanliness standards in all work areas.
• Participate in training on efficiency, fire drills, hygiene and safety.

You’ll be part of a team striving to maintain the highest cleanliness standards in wards, departments, corridors and offices, and in doing so making a real difference to the NHS.

The successful candidate will maintain the standard of cleanliness as specified throughout the designated work area by means of approved cleaning methods.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

• Cleaning of floor areas as scheduled by means of vacuuming, mopping, buffing and spray cleaning.
• Undertake “deep cleans” in areas where infection is present.
• Removal of rubbish including domestic and clinical waste from designated areas to disposal point.
• Cleaning of sanitary areas, toilet, sinks, shower cubicles and staff changing areas.
• Damp dusting of all surfaces, ledges, shelves, curtain rails.
• Cleaning of internal glass.
• Maintain high standards of cleanliness in all work areas.
• Carry out any urgent spot cleaning and spillage.
• Participate in training programmes relevant to efficiency, fire drills, hygiene, the requirements of the Health and Safety at Work regulations and other courses as deemed necessary for the efficient working of the department.
• Any other duties as deemed appropriate.
