Job summary

Turves Green Boys' School in Northfield, Birmingham, is seeking a Catering Assistant for our busy school kitchen. The role is 22 hours per week during term time (Mon-Thu 08:00–14:00), with a start date in October 2026 and a 39-week operational calendar. You will assist the Head Chef with meals, hygiene and serving for pupils and staff.

We value kitchen experience, teamwork, health and safety compliance, and strong organisational skills, with a comprehensive well-being package offered to staff.

Qualifications

Starting Salary £13,077.30 (£25,570 FTE)

The role:

Can you commit to feeding hungry tummies as well as hungry minds? We serve more than just a meal in our kitchens. Turves Green Boys School runs a busy kitchen that caters for pupils, staff and visitors. The kitchen is operational for 39 weeks of the year. The Catering Assistant will be responsible to the Head Chef, who in turn is ultimately responsible to the Headteacher. The Catering Assistant will assist the Head Chef in the smooth running of the school’s central kitchen, meal production and hygiene within the kitchen and bistro area through completion of delegated tasks.

About you:

We are looking for someone to assist with the preparation, cooking, cleaning and serving of meals to pupils and staff. Your key skills will include:

• Having experience working within a similar busy kitchen environment;
• Someone who has a commitment to working strategically as a part of a team and working
• Collaboratively with the team;
• A strong understanding of, and commitment to, health and safety, food hygiene and food safety legislation, with the ability to follow relevant procedures and standards consistently;
• Possessing excellent organizational and service skills.
