Experienced Horticultural Buyer Required to Help Shape the Future of Green Spaces!

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Category Buyer to join an established procurement team and lead the full indoor & outdoor plant range for a well-known retailer based in Norfolk.

Our client is the 7th largest Garden Centre group in the UK, representing a new wave of specialist horticultural retailers. They are looking to strengthen their procurement team by appointing an experienced category buyer for horticultural products.

This is an office-based role with flexible working arrangements, suitable for an experienced buyer responsible for sourcing and purchasing all categories of plants, shrubs, and trees across an estate of garden centres and retail stores nationwide. Responsibilities include negotiating with suppliers, managing inventory levels, and ensuring procurement processes meet company standards.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Developing product strategy related to supply base, customer base, product range, and market trends
2. Meeting or exceeding budget and forecast plans
3. Negotiating with suppliers to secure optimal pricing and trading agreements
4. Reviewing product ranges to ensure alignment with channel, brand, and seasonal objectives
5. Collaborating with key managers to optimize stock flow and sales profitability

Required Experience:

• Strong knowledge of plant varieties, quality standards, and seasonal trends
• Experience in sourcing and purchasing horticultural products
• Negotiation and supplier relationship management skills
• Knowledge of inventory management and procurement processes
• Market research and trend analysis capabilities
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
• Ability to work independently and travel to meet suppliers
• Bachelor's degree in Horticulture, Agriculture, Supply Chain Management, or a related field (preferred)
