British Sugar is a home-grown success story and one of the most efficient and competitive beet processers in the world. Around 3,500 farmers based in East Anglia and the East Midlands supply our four advanced manufacturing sites with eight million tonnes of sugar beet every year. We, in turn, make this in to over 1 million tonnes of sugar, serving customers across the UK, Ireland and increasingly growing commercially in the EU and world sugar markets.

Job Purpose

Reporting to the Senior Category Manager, Directs you will be an integral member of the procurement team partnering with key stakeholders to create competitive advantage and secure supply continuity for British Sugar through efficient, innovative, sustainable sourcing strategies and supplier relationships.

Partnering with key stakeholders in Site Stores, Supply Chain & Planning, Finance, Food Safety & Quality and Operational Teams you will be delivering bottom line and top-line value, ensuring British Sugar is the preferred choice for our Customers and Suppliers, whilst provide expert market knowledge and insights to deliver our functional performance objectives and our Must Win Battles.

Core Accountabilities

• Implementation of sourcing strategies to deliver the agreed objectives and targeted results with both the stakeholders and the Senior Category Manager.
• Engagement and sponsorship with stakeholders to deliver the objectives, offering challenge and support to stakeholders as required.
• Managing supplier relationships to ensure necessary contractual arrangements are constructed, negotiated and service level agreements are in place to allow appropriate Performance Management.
• Prioritisation and delivery of a range of projects across the Directs Category, ensuring risks are mitigated and delivered to agreed deadlines.
• Leading and supporting the teams through the commercial and contractual process with British Sugar’s suppliers resulting in robust contractual frameworks or contracts which meet all of ABF’s corporate requirements.
• Supporting the wider Procurement Team to increase performance and capability and meet or exceed shared objectives and goals.
• Ensure Procurement tools, systems and processes are kept up to date and are used to the full e.g. contract database.
• Management of procurement risk and provision of market knowledge to support decision making in the business
  
  

Skills, Knowledge & Competencies

• 5+ years' experience of leading and delivering sourcing strategies within a manufacturing environment.
• Broad knowledge across a range of Direct sub-categories.
• Working knowledge of all regulatory requirements relevant to contracts.
• Experience of e-procurement tools.
• Demonstrates commercial acumen.
• Experienced negotiator.
• Strong influencing skills.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement skills.
• Positive mindset with a drive to action.
• Degree level or equivalent industry qualification.
• Must hold Full UK Driving Licence as travel to manufacturing sites is required.
