Job summary

Canopius, a Lloyd’s syndicate, is seeking a Catastrophe Risk Analyst to join its Natural Hazards Research efforts in London. You will help develop and maintain analytics across classes of business, with close collaboration to the Exposure Management team and underwriting to prioritise Natural Hazard initiatives.

The role requires strong cat modelling knowledge, numerical/statistical expertise, and data-driven decision making.

Qualifications

• Experience in Cat Modelling role – insurance experience and RMS/Risk Modeler experience is required
• Highly numerical and strong mathematical/statistical knowledge
• Excellent business communication skills – ability to influence, negotiate, and listen
• Experience in model validation and view of risk work is highly desirable.
• Ability to manipulate large data sets with strong Excel and SQL skills.
• Strong experience using Microsoft Power BI for analytic is desirable
• Familiarity with another programming language such as VBA, .NET, R, Python

Responsibilities

• Drive improvements to view of risk (VoR) across classes of business with Analytics & Research and exposure management teams.
• Collaborate with exposure management, claims and other areas to gather data informing VoR improvements.
• Conduct selection and validation of new catastrophe vendor models and integrate into VoR and processes.
• Develop research agenda delivering commercial value, in partnership with underwriting on Natural Hazard priorities.
• Develop and maintain event response processes and communicate event impacts to the wider business.
• Develop in-house exposure management approaches for perils not covered by catastrophe models.
• Ensure compliance with Lloyd’s Principals and internal controls for research and VoR.
