Job summary

Durham University invites applicants for a casual Teaching Support (Events) role in the Science Faculty Office. The post involves maintaining registers, supporting delivery of teaching elements, and producing learning and teaching materials for a STEM outreach event in Darlington on 13-14 October 2026.

You will train and support undergraduate and postgraduate students and staff, ensure appropriate conduct and welfare, and report outcomes to project leads.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain registers and monitor attendance
  • Support the delivery of specific elements of the teaching programme as specified by the relevant department
  • Assist with the production of L&T materials
  • Assist and direct student projects as required
  • Help ensure appropriate student conduct and adherence to ethical guidelines, implementing the University’s code of conduct and reporting any concerns to the academic mentor
  • Monitoring the welfare of the student(s) and report any concerns immediately
  • Developing interactive materials for 10min round robin mini-workshops to be delivered to groups of 10-13 year old school pupils at Darlington's Destination STEM event on 13-14 Oct 2026.
  • Setting up the mini-workshops on 12 Oct at Hopetown, Darlington.
  • Training and supporting undergraduate and post-graduate students and staff in delivering the activities to the multiple groups.
  • Ensuring all Durham University staff/students are supported and take breaks during the event.
  • Reporting back to the project leads on numbers attending and staff/student experience of the event.
