Job summary

Thornbridge Outdoors is Sheffield City Council’s outdoor learning centre near Bakewell in the Peak District. We are recruiting casual instructors to deliver high-quality outdoor education across the Peak District, including schools and various venues.

Activities include mountain biking, canoeing, high ropes, caving, climbing, hillwalking and bushcraft. Work options include single days, part weeks, weekends and blocks, with a focus on weekend availability.

Qualifications

  • Experience delivering outdoor learning and activities.
  • Qualifications for leading adventurous activities (e.g. Mountain Training Rock Climbing Instructor or higher).
  • Ability to deliver a range of activities across Peak District venues.

Responsibilities

  • Run high-quality outdoor education sessions for diverse groups.
  • Deliver activities such as mountain biking, canoeing, high ropes, caving, climbing and bushcraft.
  • Work across Peak District venues and schools as required.

Thornbridge Outdoors is Sheffield City Council’s outdoor learning centre located near Bakewell in the Peak District. Our mission is ‘to widen the horizons of young people through real outdoor adventures in the Peak District’.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the pool of casual instructors at Thornbridge Outdoors, and play a key role in providing excellent adventures for our clients.

Applicants should have:

  • A passion for outdoor activities and delivering outdoor learning.
  • Experience leading outdoor activities and the drive to be able to deliver the full range of activities offered at the centre.
  • A range of qualifications for leading adventurous activities including the Mountain Training Rock Climbing Instructor (or a higher award) and at least one of the following:
    • Mountain Training Hill and Moorland Leader or Mountain Leader
    • British Caving Local Cave/Mine Leader or higher award
    • British Canoeing qualifications appropriate for leading canoeing on a reservoir (sheltered water).
    • A nationally recognised mountain bike leadership qualification appropriate for leading on trails in the Peak District.

Your main role will be to run high quality outdoor education sessions for a range of different groups at our centre, in various venues across the Peak District and on occasion at schools. Activities that the centre delivers include mountain biking, canoeing, high ropes courses, caving/mine exploration, problem solving, abseiling, climbing, hillwalking and bushcraft.

Different opportunities for work include single days (both midweek and at weekends), part weeks, weekends and Monday-Friday blocks.

We are especially interested in applications from instructors qualified to deliver a range of different activities with availability that includes some weekends.
