Job summary

Oldham College is seeking a committed Cleaner to support the effective delivery of College services and priorities. You will carry out cleaning across classrooms, offices, workshops, corridors, kitchens and toilets in line with the cleaning schedule.

Replenish consumables, operate cleaning equipment such as scrubber/dryers, carpet cleaners and steam cleaners, and report any faults. A flexible, customer‑focused approach is essential, with the ability to work evenings and Saturdays on a rota.

Qualifications

• Previous proven experience in cleaning, ideally with scrubber/dryer, carpet cleaner or steam mop.
• Flexible, adaptable, customer-focused approach, able to work under pressure.
• Good communication with staff, students, contractors and visitors.
• Self-motivated, able to work independently and in a team with minimal supervision.
• Willingness to work occasional evenings and Saturdays on a rota.

Responsibilities

• Clean designated areas (classrooms, offices, workshops, corridors, kitchens, toilets) per cleaning schedule.
• Replenish toilet rolls, soap, hand sanitiser and paper towels.
• Operate cleaning equipment including scrubber/dryer, carpet cleaners and steam cleaners.
• Spot and address issues, report defects in furniture or fittings.
• Secure cleaning rooms and offices after cleaning per policy.
• Assist with periodic deep cleaning and keep areas litter-free.
• Follow safe working practices and comply with COSHH assessments.
• Adhere to safeguarding and equality commitments in college policies.

About The Role

Key Responsibilities

• Secure cleaning rooms and offices, and follow the locked door policy after cleaning
• Assist with periodic deep cleaning and keep areas free of litter
• Follow safe working practices, including relevant risk and COSHH assessments
• Carry out duties in line with College policies and procedures, including safeguarding and equality commitments

Skills And Experience

• Previous proven experience of cleaning, ideally including use of machinery such as scrubber/dryers, carpet cleaners, or steam mops
• A flexible, adaptable, and customer-focused approach, with the ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines
• Good communication skills, able to interact effectively with College staff, students, contractors, and visitors
• Self-motivated, able to work both independently and as part of a team with minimal supervision
• Willingness to work occasional evenings and Saturdays on a rota basis, and suitability to work in an environment involving safeguarding responsibilities
