Job summary

Victim Support in Wales is seeking a Hate Crime Caseworker to deliver tailored one-to-one support to victims and help them navigate the criminal justice system.

Based in St Melons, Cardiff with hybrid working, the role is 22.5 hours per week. The post offers flexible benefits and opportunities for progression within the organisation.

Qualifications

  • Good communication & networking skills

  • Experience in statutory/voluntary/community or customer service with members of the public
  • Experience of safeguarding issues and legislation related to child protection and vulnerable adults
  • The ability to manage a demanding workload and to meet a range of conflicting deadlines
  • Strong telephone and IT skills to use a database and handle admin/reporting requirements
  • Ability to work well in a team and independently in various locations

Responsibilities

  • Directly support victims of hate crime with tailored one-to-one support

About the role

This role is based in St Melons, Cardiff with hybrid working available. As a Hate Crime Caseworker you will:

  • Directly support victims affected by hate crime & ensure the provision of tailored one-to-one support
  • Assist those victims in ensuring they receive the support required to complete their journey through the criminal justice system to cope and recover from the impact of crime and help people to move beyond the crime and access additional support services.
  • Develop networks of agencies to which victims can be referred for ongoing/specialist support and report on the effectiveness of relationships with partners with a view to improving services delivered by Victim Support
  • Work alongside a team of staff and volunteers to reflect the community and the needs of the victims and utilise resources in the team to deliver individual, bespoke services to vulnerable victims

  • Previous experience of working within a statutory, voluntary, community, or customer service environment dealing with members of the public
  • Experience of safeguarding issues and legislation relating to both child protection and vulnerable adults
  • The ability to manage a demanding workload and to meet a range of conflicting deadlines
  • Strong telephone and IT skills required to use a database and undertake all administrative and reporting requirements
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team but also to work independently in a variety of locations without direct supervision
