Job summary

Serco Limited is seeking a Carpenter for its Estates team at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital. The role focuses on maintaining and improving a healthcare environment to support patient care, with a Monday–Friday schedule and a permanent contract.

The role involves planned maintenance, reactive repairs, and on-call responsiveness, contributing to safe and efficient hospital facilities. A related DBS check and Occupational Health screening are part of the vetting process.

Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 2 Carpentry and/or Joinery, City and Guilds Carpentry and/or Joinery qualification.
  • Strong knowledge of building maintenance and repair techniques.
  • Ability to solve problems and work independently under pressure.
  • Good communication skills and a collaborative, flexible approach.
  • Commitment to safety, quality and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out building maintenance and new works as directed, ensuring high standards are met.
  • Use your own initiative to diagnose and resolve building fabric issues.
  • Support other trades and collaborate across teams when required.
  • Maintain accurate records such as work logs, timesheets, and audit information.
  • Follow all health and safety policies to ensure safe working practices.
  • Participate in on-call rotas and respond to emergency repair needs when required.

Salary: £29,744 to £32,328.27 plus excellent benefits

Schedule: Permanent, Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm (30 mins break)

From planned maintenance to reactive repairs, you'll play a key role in ensuring the hospital's infrastructure operates efficiently. What you'll do as a Carpenter
  • Carry out building maintenance and new works as directed, ensuring high standards are met

Vetting and checks:

This role requires a Basic DBS check, which will disclose any unspent convictions in line with the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. You will also complete an Occupational Health Questionnaire to help us identify and provide any support you may need to undertake the role effectively.
