Job summary

TipTopJob is recruiting a Caretaker / Site Manager for a Barnet-based primary school. This long-term, full-time position involves day-to-day site management, general maintenance, and ensuring a safe, secure environment for pupils and staff.

You will work Monday to Friday, coordinate with contractors, and support the school’s daily operations within the facilities team. Previous school experience is desirable; a practical, proactive approach is essential.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in caretaker, site assistant, facilities or maintenance roles is desirable.
• Experience working in a school or similar environment is desirable.
• Practical, hands-on approach to maintenance and repairs.
• Good understanding of health and safety responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Ensure the school site is safe, secure and well maintained.
• Carry out general maintenance, repairs and basic DIY tasks.
• Complete daily checks of the school buildings and grounds.
• Open and secure the school site as required.
• Monitor and report any maintenance, health and safety or security issues.
• Liaise with contractors and external services when required.
• Support with deliveries, moving furniture and setting up rooms.
• Maintain cleanliness and presentation of the site and grounds.
• Ensure site procedures and health and safety requirements are followed.
• Respond promptly to site-related issues during the school day.
• Work closely with the school leadership and administrative team.
