Job summary

Randstad CPE is seeking a proactive Facilities Assistant / Caretaker to join a local school site in Knowsley. You will manage opening/closing, maintenance, porterage and security, acting as the main contact between the school and the contractor.

The role covers site access, safety, and daily support across multiple school sites in Knowsley. A full driving licence, DBS (enhanced) and practical DIY skills are essential; weekend and out-of-hours cover is required with rotating early/late shifts.

Caretaker Needed Liverpool

About the Role

One of our top facilities management company is seeking a proactive, customer-focused Facilities Assistant / Caretaker to join our team at a local school site. Acting as a key point of contact between the company and the school, you will oversee all aspects of general site management, including opening/locking up, building maintenance, porterage, and security.

Location: Knowsley (covering multiple school sites across the area)
Pay Rate: £13.02 + holiday pay, or £14.30 without holiday pay (PAYE)
contract: 28th Sept - 31st Dec 2026
Hours : 37.5 hours per week (30-minute daily break)
Shift Pattern: Monday - Friday, rotating shifts (Early: 06:00 - 14:00 | Late: 13:00 - 21:00). Must be flexible to cover both shifts. Occasional weekend work and out-of-hours overtime required.

Key Responsibilities

• Site Access & Security: Lock and unlock school buildings, carry out regular security patrols, manage visitor/contractor sign-ins, and supervise the site during community use.
• Maintenance & Compliance: Conduct planned maintenance (including fire alarm testing and water checks), complete minor reactive repairs (e.g., painting, fixtures), and record monthly meter readings.
• Health & Safety: Issue access permits to external contractors, adhere strictly to COSHH guidelines for chemical storage, and report any health, safety, or environmental issues.
• General Site Support: Handle daily porterage requests, keep all equipment in good repair, maintain site documentation, and complete minor works as directed by the Site Manager.

Requirements & Qualifications

• DBS Check: Enhanced DBS is essential.
• Driving License: Full driving license and access to a vehicle, as travel between multiple school sites in Knowsley will be required.
• Footwear: Must possess your own safety boots/shoes (all other PPE provided).
• Skills: Practical DIY/maintenance ability, strong Health & Safety awareness, excellent communication skills, and the capacity to prioritize under pressure.
