Job summary

Hatched Recruitment Group is recruiting a proactive Caretaker to work across multiple school sites in Knowsley. The role involves general site management, maintenance, security, porterage and excellent customer service. You will work across early and late shifts, with a 37.5 hour week and commute across sites as needed.

Essential duties include opening/locking premises, routine repairs and site inspections, plus assisting with safety and COSHH compliance. Driving licence is required.

Location: Knowsley - Multiple Sites

Hours: Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week

Shifts: Early 6:00am-2:00pm / Late 1:00pm-9:00pm

Pay: 13.02 per hour PAYE

Driving Licence: Essential

We are currently recruiting for an experienced and reliable Caretaker to work across multiple school sites in the Knowsley area.

This is a varied role involving general site management, building maintenance, security, porterage and customer service. The successful candidate must be flexible and able to work both early and late shifts.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out planned and reactive building maintenance and minor repairs.
• Open and lock school buildings as required.
• Carry out regular site security checks and ensure the building remains secure.
• Provide a professional and customer-focused service to the school.
• Manage visitors and contractors, including maintaining the site visitor book.
• Monitor and manage external contractors in line with company and Health & Safety procedures.
• Carry out porterage duties and respond to school requests.
• Complete minor works including painting, putting up notice boards and general maintenance.
• Carry out planned maintenance tasks, including fire alarm testing and L8 testing.
• Take monthly meter readings.
• Complete reactive repairs and other maintenance tasks as required.
• Ensure equipment is safe, maintained and used correctly.
• Follow COSHH requirements, including the safe storage and handling of chemicals.
• Report accidents, near misses and Health & Safety or environmental issues.
• Complete site security tours and remain vigilant regarding the security of the school.
• Support the management of the building when community groups are using the site.
• Attend Toolbox Talks and complete relevant training.
• Work safely, efficiently and independently, using initiative when required.
• Complete overtime and occasional weekend work when required.

Requirements

• Full UK driving licence - essential.
• Previous caretaking, facilities, maintenance or similar experience is desirable.
• Good practical and maintenance skills.
• Good customer service and communication skills.
• Able to work independently and as part of a team.
• Reliable, flexible and able to prioritise workload.
• Comfortable working across multiple sites.
• Able to work early and late shifts as required.
• Good understanding of Health & Safety procedures.
