We are pleased to announce we have an exciting opportunity here at Potens for a School Caretaker.

Based at our Dorchester site however may require supporting our site in Weymouth on occasions.

Arbour House School is an independent SEN school with split sites Lower and Upper based in Weymouth and Dorchester for young people aged 618 with complex social communication and learning needs.

We provide a bespoke creative and stimulating curriculum with a particular focus on developing independent living skills and reallife learning. We aim to support our pupils to achieve their full potential contribute to their communities gain meaningful employment or progress to further education.

What youll be doing:

  • Supporting and coordinating all odd job tasks and routine maintenance activities to ensure planned work reactive breakdowns and cyclical programs are delivered.
  • Coordinate with external contractors and liaise with our central estates department.
  • You will oversee the premises to ensure they meet compliant Health and Safety standards and perform basic upkeep of the external grounds.
  • Maintain and manage accurate health and safety compliance records such as water temperature checks emergency lights fire alarms etc.
  • Supporting with Keyholding responsibilities and being able to respond to outofhours callouts from the school.
  • Maintain the surrounding grounds and vegetation.
  • Providing support to our other site in Weymouth may be required.
  • The position is termtime only although there is a possibility for occasional hours in school holidays. The hours are between 1 and 3 per day opening up and doing a Health & safety check in the morning then doing any repairs and locking up in the evening. The shift start/finish times are negotiable and will be discussed at the interview.

Who you are:

  • It is essential that you have experience with odd job tasks and are able and willing to undertake these.
  • Relevant trade qualifications are desirable but not essential.
  • The post holder will have the ability to effectively communicate sensitively with all staff as well as students with Special Educational Needs.
  • Flexibility to work as needed and a good team player.
  • Be proficient in the basic use of Microsoft Office/ accessing and sending emails and web browsing.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • The role will be exposed to sensitive information; therefore the role holder is expected to always maintain levels of confidentiality in line with all polices.
