An established industry player is seeking a proactive and friendly caretaker to join their team at Walkington Primary School. This permanent role offers 32.5 hours per week on a split shift basis, ensuring the smooth operation of the school environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for site management during term time and holidays, with a focus on safety and flexibility. Ideal for someone with a knack for problem-solving and a good understanding of Health & Safety practices, this position promises a rewarding experience in a supportive team setting. Join us in making a difference in the school community!
We are looking for an enthusiastic, friendly and flexible caretaker to join our team from the autumn term (Sept 2025) onwards to manage the day-to-day site management of Walkington Primary School.
You will be a proactive individual, comfortable and confident working alone and as part of a team, both of your own initiative and under the direction of a line manager. You will have a track record in employment which displays good judgement and common sense, enabling you to safely and successfully complete a wide range of planned and, at times, unexpected tasks throughout the school year.
This is a permanent role consisting of 32.5 hours per week on a split shift basis. Alongside the school management team, you will be responsible for looking after the site during both term time and school holidays, with annual leave to be taken during periods of school closure. The working hours are 6.5 hours per day; 6.00am to 9.30am and then 4.00pm to 7.00pm, Monday to Friday. We anticipate the role will commence with a hand-over period alongside our retiring caretaker, starting on or around the 26 th August.
There will be some occasions when alternative hours would be required, for instance securing the site after events, so a degree of agreed flexibility is requested from the successful candidate.
Whilst this is not essential, as training will be offered, any experience of caretaking or site maintenance, including a good working knowledge of Health & Safety in the workplace, would be advantageous.
Full details of our requirements can be found within the attached job outline and person specification.
Informal visits to the school are encouraged and can be arranged ahead of the closing date by contacting the school office.
