You will build employer relationships, source and monitor placements across curriculum areas, match learners to opportunities, perform suitability checks and support SEND learners to access inclusive work experience and progression paths.

Job description

The Role

We are seeking a dedicated and motivatedCareers & Work Experience (WEX) Coordinatorto join our Student Experience department at Hammersmith Campus.

The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting learners to develop their employability, career readiness, independence and preparation for adulthood. Working closelywith curriculum teams, employers, learners, parents/carers and external agencies, you will coordinate meaningful work experience opportunities, employer engagement activities, careers education and progression pathways.

You will be responsible for developing strong relationships with employers and partners to increase opportunities for learners across a range of sectors, including work experience placements, industry placements, internships, apprenticeships, supported internships and employment.

The role will have a particular focus on ensuring that careers and work experience opportunities areinclusive, accessible and responsive to the needs of all learners, including those with SEND, EHCPs and other additional support needs.

The ideal candidate will:
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with local, regional and national employers to create meaningful careers, work experience and progression opportunities for learners.
  • Source, coordinate and monitor high-quality work experience, industry placements, internships and employment opportunities across curriculum areas, including opportunities for T-level learners.
  • Match learners to appropriate work experience placements based on their career aspirations, skills, interests, support needs and level of independence.
  • Complete appropriate placement suitability checks, risk assessments and monitoring arrangements to ensure safe and successful work experience.
  • Work closely with curriculum teams, support staff, employers and external agencies to ensure learners are well prepared for and supported throughout their work experience.
  • Monitor learner engagement, progress and outcomes during placements and evaluate the impact of work experience opportunities.
  • Deliver careers education, employability workshops and activities that support learners to understand different career pathways and employment opportunities.
  • Support learners to develop key employability skills, including CV writing, completing application forms, interview techniques, workplace behaviours and professional communication.
  • Coordinate employer presentations, guest speakers, careers fairs, industry insight days and sector-specific engagement activities.
  • Promote a wide range of progression opportunities, including employment, apprenticeships, supported internships, higher education and further learning.
  • Support learners to understand the qualifications, skills and experience required to achieve their career aspirations and develop appropriate progression plans where required.
  • Work collaboratively with Transition Coordinators, SEND teams and Employment Pathway Coordinators to support learners with additional needs.
  • Ensure careers education, employer engagement and work experience opportunities are inclusive and accessible, identifying and supporting reasonable adjustments where required.
  • Promote supported internships, supported employment and preparation for adulthood pathways for learners with SEND and additional support needs.
  • Provide individual support to learners, including those with SEND and EHCPs, care experienced young people, young carers, learners from disadvantaged backgrounds and learners at risk of becoming NEET.
  • Engage with parents and carers through careers information events and other activities, helping families understand progression routes, employment opportunities and preparation for adulthood.
  • Develop links with parent/carer groups, employers and relevant support organisations to strengthen the support available to learners.
  • Maintain accurate records of employer engagement, work experience placements, learner participation and progression outcomes.
  • Monitor and analyse placement, employer engagement and progression data to identify trends, measure impact and inform continuous improvement.
  • Contribute to self-assessment, quality improvement planning and the College's strategic ambitions around employability, careers, inclusion and successful learner progression.
  • Maintain professional knowledge of careers education, employability, work experience, employer engagement and inclusive practice.
