Care & Support Worker

£13,759 pa (21 hours per week)

St Helena, Sandown, Isle of Wight

The role

We are looking for a Care & Support Worker to join Southern Housing.

You will be part of a team providing personalised care and support services to promote independence, health, and wellbeing for people with learning disabilities at our supported housing scheme.

You will need to work flexibly to cover evenings and weekends as required. You must be physically able to undertake moving and handling, have a vehicle with business use insurance, and will be subject to an enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check.

This role requires sleep-in duties.

Please note this is a permanent, part-time role working 21 hours a week.

The location

You will work at our St Helena scheme, based in Sandown, Isle of Wight.

What you’ll be doing

  • Providing support and care to residents, promoting independence, rights, choices, and community inclusion.
  • Supporting participation in social, leisure, educational, and employment activities.
  • Handling emergency situations professionally and calmly.
  • Maintaining professional relationships with service users.
  • Assisting with benefits, budgeting, and menu planning as appropriate.
  • Signposting to and accessing specialist services.
  • Supporting security and safety of residents' homes and environments.
  • Liaising with other professionals and agencies.

What you’ll need

  • Four GCSEs at grade C or above (or equivalent), including Maths & English.
  • An understanding of support and care needs.
  • Good communication skills (verbal, IT, written).
  • Empathy, compassion, patience, and flexibility.
  • Ability to remain calm in emergencies and handle challenging behaviour professionally.
  • Driving licence and access to a vehicle.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of personal boundaries and local community services.
