Markel is expanding its Care Sector team in the UK and seeking two Development Underwriters to drive growth across key regions. You will combine underwriting expertise with a broker-facing approach to win new business while strengthening Markel’s position in the care market.

This role emphasizes market presence, broker engagement, and territorial autonomy, with strong prospects for impact and progression within a growing team.

Qualifications

• Commercial underwriting experience in care or social welfare sectors.
• Proven ability to develop broker relationships and win new business.
• Strong negotiation and credit assessment skills.
• Ability to operate autonomously across large territorial ranges.

Responsibilities

• Build and strengthen relationships with brokers across your territory.
• Identify and win new business opportunities.
• Increase awareness of the Markel proposition within the care market.
• Represent Markel at broker meetings, industry events and networking opportunities.
• Underwrite and negotiate new business risks within authority.
• Develop and manage a strong pipeline of opportunities.
• Drive portfolio growth while maintaining underwriting discipline.
• Contribute to a significant annual new business target.
• Collaborate with underwriting, distribution and operational teams.
