Job summary

Avery Healthcare is seeking a warm, enthusiastic Sous Chef for Hinckley House Care Home in Leicester. You will support the Head Chef and lead a culinary team to deliver nutritionally balanced, high-quality meals for residents, all within budget.

The ideal candidate holds a catering qualification (City & Guilds 706/1 and 706/2 or NVQ or equivalent), has at least 1 year of catering experience, and demonstrates compassion, flexibility, and a commitment to excellent resident care.

Qualifications

• Catering qualification (City & Guilds 706/1 and 706/2 or NVQ or equivalent).
• Minimum 1 year catering experience.
• Commitment to high-quality, resident-centred culinary services.
• Ability to adapt and cover a range of duties on short notice.

Responsibilities

• Support Head Chef in leading a culinary team to deliver balanced, high-quality meals within budget.
• Prepare modified diets per IDDSI guidance.
• Supervise and direct culinary staff; train unqualified staff in basic prep.
• Ensure food hygiene standards and safety.
• Support team in understanding Avery Food Safety Management System.
