Job summary

Hampden House in Harrogate, operated by HICA Group, is seeking a friendly Catering Assistant. You will prepare and serve meals, ensure kitchen cleanliness, and respect the dietary needs and preferences of service users, while supporting a warm, person-centred dining experience.

The role requires an NVQ Basic Food Hygiene qualification (or working toward) and prior kitchen experience. Full-time hours, 30–38.5 per week, with some weekend shifts. DBS check will be required.

• Experience in a kitchen environment with an understanding of dietary needs.
• Strong communication and organisational abilities for a care setting.
• Ability to work as part of a team and deliver person-centred service.

Pay & Hours:

£13.70 per hour 30 - 38.5 Hours a week Shift pattern - working to a rota to be discussed at interview - some weekend work available.

The Role:

You will prepare and serve food and drinks to our Service Users. Ensure the cleanliness of the kitchen area is up to the highest standard. Be aware of specific needs and preferences from our Service Users. Keeping cleaning products safely stored as well as ordering cleaning products for the kitchen. Using a person-centred approach towards our Service Users during meal times.

About you:

• Working towards or holds a relevant NVQ Basic Food Hygiene qualification.
• Previous experience of working in a Kitchen environment.
• Excellent knowledge of individual dietary needs.
• A good understanding of those with challenging behaviours.
• Good communication and organisational skills.

About us:

Hampden House is a 66-bed purpose-built nursing home located within the prestigious Duchy Estate. The home provides the highest level of facilities and services from personal and nursing care, short-stays and end-of-life care. We have recently opened a new memory suite for those who require extra care due to a dementia diagnosis, while the rest of the home offers a more hotel-like atmosphere, allowing residents with full capacity the freedom to come and go as they wish. Residents in the main part of the home benefit from a touch of additional care provided by our friendly, dedicated team, ensuring their day-to-day life remains relaxed and enjoyable. The home consists of a spacious and stylish communal area complete with a large TV and a bar, along with an elegant dining area. These areas are complimented by a vast number of windows which make the space very open and light. These areas wrap around a courtyard lushly adorned with foliage and is a lovely suntrap. In fact, the staff often put out tables and chairs in the summertime, so their residents have the option to eat al-fresco or simply enjoy the sunshine. Hampden House is also currently undergoing some transformational renovations to provide a more extravagant yet homely, cosy atmosphere.
