Responsibilities

• Assist residents with personal care (washing, dressing, meals) according to needs.
• Use equipment for moving, handling and weighing after training.
• Treat residents with dignity and respect at all times.
• Be the key worker for assigned residents.
• Administer drugs where trained and authorized.
• Care for residents who are unwell or dying under supervision.
• Maintain accurate care plan records and documentation.
• Attend handover meetings at the start of each shift.
• Follow Care Standards Act, Health & Safety, Fire Regulations; comply with guidelines.
• Ensure visitors are welcomed warmly; address queries or refer to a manager as needed.
• Provide mental and physical stimulation; assist in dining room, kitchen or laundry as required.

The Role

BCHA is seeking a number of experienced Care Assistants to deliver excellent care to the residents of Bedford Charter House, our Care Home on Kimbolton Road. Ideally, the successful candidates will hold a NVQ level 2 or have experience in working in health & social care. However, full training will be provided and BCHA will support staff who wish to undertake qualifications.

Please note all applicants must already hold the legal right to work in the UK to be able to fulfil this role.

Main Duties And Responsibilities

• To assist residents according to their needs and wishes with personal care including washing, toileting, dressing, undressing, continence control and at mealtimes.
• After training, to use equipment provided for moving, handling and weighing residents correctly.
• To treat all residents with dignity and respect at all times.
• To be the key worker for specific residents.
• To be responsible when trained, for administering drugs.
• To care for residents who are unwell or dying, under supervision.
• To maintain accurate and comprehensive care plan records in accordance with your responsibilities and instructions.
• To attend handover meetings promptly at the beginning of each shift.
• Following training act within the legal and regulatory requirements covering care homes, including: Care Standards Act, Health & Safety requirements, Fire Regulations.
• Demonstrate an up-to-date knowledge of SOVA requirements and work within these guidelines at all times.
• To be aware of, and comply with, Bedford Charter House and Bedford Citizens' Housing Association's policies and procedures.
• Ensure that all visitors to BCHA receive a warm and professional welcome. Make sure that any questions received from relatives of residents are answered accurately, referring to a manager any questions which you cannot answer.
• To assist in providing mental and physical stimulation for residents.
• Assist with duties in the dining room, kitchen or laundry duties on an as and when required basis.
• To undertake training as required to fulfil the duties and responsibilities of the role.
• Any other duties or variations to the above duties that may be reasonably required by BCHA from time to time
