Job description

Care Assistant

Fixed Term Contract initially for 3 months

Grade 2 £24,027-£25,992 Consultation grade - subject to formal evaluation under the Pay Equity Review

Working 36.5 hours per week

Location of posts:

  • Residential and Enhanced Assessment units at Kenrick Care Centre in Harborne
  • Residential unit at Perry Tree Care Centre in Perry Common
  • Residential unit and Enhanced Assessment units at Ann Marie Howes Care Centre in Sheldon

Residential Units at each centre consist of 32 beds and provide services to citizens who need long-term care and support. These units offer personal care and bespoke meaningful activities for the residents, celebrating festive seasons with citizens and their families.

In Perry Tree Care Centres, staff and residents jointly care for animals including ducks, rabbits, chickens, and cats, along with fish tanks filled with colorful fish.

At Anne Marie Howes and Kenrick, residents enjoy beautiful gardens and water features. The Enhanced Assessment (EAB) unit at Kenrick accommodates citizens who are medically fit but need ongoing rehabilitation before returning home from hospitals.

The rehabilitation programmes at EAB are supported by care assistants under the supervision of senior care staff and therapists. This 32-bedded service has a high turnover of referrals from hospitals in the city, with a short-term length of stay. The EAB team consists of Care Staff, Occupational Therapists, Physio Therapists, Social Workers, and district nurses who work in a fast-paced environment to support hospital discharges.

The Enhanced Assessment (EAB) unit at Anne Marie Howes consists of 8 beds with similar practices to Kenrick EAB. The main role and responsibilities of a care assistant in both residential and EAB units include working closely with colleagues, residents, and their families to ensure citizens are safe, happy, and healthy. The dignity, privacy, emotional, and psychological needs of our residents are paramount, and as a care assistant, you are expected to ensure these elements are achieved successfully.

Due to the nature of this job, staff are required to work on a rota that includes late and early shifts, weekends, and bank holidays.

Government legislation requires anyone entering, working, or volunteering in a Care Quality Commission (CQC) registered care home in England for residents requiring nursing or personal care to have completed a course of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine and provide proof, unless they have a medical exemption or are under 18. You will be required to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination status or medical exemption to the recruiting manager as part of the interview process, and if you are the successful candidate, as part of pre-employment checks.
