Job summary

Stockport NHS Foundation Trust in Stockport is seeking a Consultant Cardiologist to join a busy cardiology team. The post includes 10 Programmed Activities (PAs) and a permanent full-time arrangement, with flexible working discussed with the Clinical Director and service needs.

The role covers inpatient and outpatient care, echocardiography including stress echo, participation in the COW rota, and engagement in audits, governance, teaching and service development.

Qualifications

• Experience in echocardiography, including stress echo.
• Ability to work independently in echocardiography.
• Participation in audit and clinical governance.

Responsibilities

• Manage cardiology patients on inpatient and outpatient basis.
• Be part of the cardiology Consultant of the Week rota (COW).
• Develop the Cardiology services and department and support business cases.
• Provide supervision and management of junior medical staff.
• Conduct teaching, examinations and postgraduate education activities.
• Triage referrals from primary care with an 'advice first' approach when appropriate.
• Maintain awareness of professional guidelines and GMC procedures.

Be part of the Consultant Cardiology team.

Manage cardiology patients on an inpatient and outpatient basis.

Be part of the cardiology Consultant of the Week (“COW”) rota.

The post is intended to support specialist echocardiography services. The ideal candidate will have an interest and be able to work independent in echocardiography, including stress echo.

Participate in audit, clinical governance, annual job plan, and appraisal.

Triage referrals from primary care, supporting an “advice first” (+/- test only) approach when clinically appropriate.

Develop the Cardiology services and department. The post holder may therefore be expected to support the Clinical Director and Directorate Manager with business cases for various service developments.

Provide professional supervision and management of junior medical staff.

Conduct teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required and for contributing to postgraduate and continuing medical education activity.

Participate in the cardiology Consultant of the Week rota

Responsible for maintaining awareness of & acting in accordance with professional guidelines such as “Duties of a Doctor”, “Good Medical Practice” & the “GMC Performance Procedures.”
