Job summary

Yolk Recruitment Ltd in Somerset is seeking a time-served Carding Maintenance Engineer to maintain, repair and optimise carding machinery and fibre-processing equipment. The role aims to keep production stable, with minimal downtime and high product quality.

You will work on recognised carding equipment brands, participate in root cause analysis, and share knowledge with apprentices while prioritising safety and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with carding machinery (cards, strippers or equivalent).
• NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering.
• Solid mechanical fault-finding and strip-down ability.
• Good electrical awareness (motors, sensors, drives, inverters).
• Experience in textiles, nonwovens or fibre-processing environments.
• Ability to work independently and diagnose machine issues.
• Understanding of web formation, fibre movement and carding tolerances.

Responsibilities

• Maintain, repair and optimise carding machinery and fibre-processing equipment.
• Carry out planned preventative maintenance on carding machines.
• Respond to mechanical and electrical breakdowns across carding lines.
• Diagnose faults on cylinders, strippers, doffers, workers and related components.
• Perform alignment, clearance, tensioning and adjustments to maintain fibre flow.
• Work on brands such as Trützschler, Spinnbau, Herguth, TAM or similar.
• Support rebuilds, strip-downs and card clothing changes.
• Collaborate with production to resolve quality issues and improve performance.
• Contribute to root cause analysis, asset care and continuous improvement.
• Share knowledge with apprentices and operators; ensure safety and procedures are followed.
