Job summary

Yolk Recruitment is supporting a rapidly growing textile manufacturer in Somerset, seeking a Carding Maintenance Engineer. The role focuses on maintaining, repairing and optimising carding machinery and fibre-processing equipment to ensure stable production and minimal downtime.

The position offers a challenging relocation opportunity to Bridgwater with a base salary of around £60,000, plus up to £8,000 relocation support. Shifts are 4 on/4 off, with benefits and a secure long-term role.

Qualifications

• Proven hands-on experience with carding machinery (cards, strippers, or equivalents).
• NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering.
• Strong mechanical fault-finding and strip-down ability.
• Good electrical awareness (motors, sensors, drives, inverters).
• Experience in textiles or fibre-processing environments.

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventive maintenance on carding machines.
• Respond to mechanical and electrical breakdowns across carding lines.
• Diagnose faults on cylinders, strippers, doffers, and related parts.
• Perform alignment, clearance setting, tensioning and adjustments to fibre flow and web quality.
• Collaborate with production to resolve quality issues and improve machine performance.
• Support rebuilds, strip-downs and card clothing changes.
• Share knowledge with apprentices and operators; ensure safe work practices.
