Job summary

Mersey West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is seeking a strategic Head of Capital Projects (Transformation) to lead the capital department. You will oversee complex NHS capital schemes, ensure compliance, and manage related budgets across multiple sites.

The role requires advanced project management skills, strong stakeholder engagement, and proven experience delivering large-scale capital works within the NHS. Permanent, full-time position based at Southport/Ormskirk sites.

Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent in a relevant area or demonstrable experience in relevant areas.
• Membership of a Professional Institution e.g.: IEE; IET; I.MechE; CIBSE; IHEEM; CIOB; RICS; RIB.
• Engineering Council Registered Professional Engineer (IEng) or equivalent.
• Professional registration and knowledge through post graduate course or experience to masters level knowledge.
• Master’s degree or equivalent experience in Leadership & Management or Technical.

Responsibilities

• The post holder will have responsibility for Managing the Capital Department – to ensure that all Engineering, building services and equipment provided by Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust are compliant with statutory requirements and maintained in a safe and reliable condition.
• Manage, lead, and track a programme of highly complex and specialist Capital Projects for delivery, from project briefing through to completion of works on site to the Assistant Director of Capital Projects.
• Develop and prepare regular statistical management reports on Engineering services, risk, performance using CAD or Visio to create detailed technical drawings to ensure daily performance against SLA’s and KPI’s.
• Lead audits as required and participate in review of standards and performance.
• Responsible for producing and implementing departmental procedures, proposes policies and changes to the department, organising multi-stakeholder meetings to ensure continuity of service.
