Job summary

NHS Scotland is seeking a compassionate Patient Navigator to support patients through urgent suspected cancer and post-diagnosis pathways. You will coordinate appointments, enable timely access to diagnostics, signpost to services, and provide clear, empathetic information at every step.

Qualifications

• Strong administrative and clerical skills and excellent communications.
• Experience in roles involving direct patient contact is desirable.
• Ability to communicate clearly and compassionately with patients, families, and colleagues.
• Flexibility to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Support patients with appointment management and timely access to diagnostics and clinics.
• Signpost patients to clinical advice and appropriate support services.
• Provide clear information on pathway and next steps.
• Manage administrative aspects of allocated cancer pathways.
• Share clinical and investigatory information, arrange required specimens when needed.
• Make supportive calls to patients discharged from suspicion of cancer and complete prehabilitation screening for colorectal patients.
