Job summary

Hull College is seeking a skilled Painter & Decorator to enhance and maintain the appearance of campus buildings, facilities and common areas. Join the Estates Services team to deliver high-quality painting and decorating with attention to detail and craftsmanship.

The role requires experience in painting and decorating, knowledge of materials and tools, and the ability to read technical drawings. 37 hours/week, 52 weeks/year, with 31 days’ annual leave.

Qualifications

• Minimum Level 2 Maths & English.
• Demonstrable experience in painting and decorating.
• Good knowledge of materials, tools and techniques to complete wooden installations.
• Good communication skills.
• Excellent project management and work organisation skills.
• Ability to read technical drawings and work to detailed specifications.
• Ability to work effectively as an individual or as part of a team.
• Ability to prioritise workload and organise work schedule.
• Ability to communicate and work professionally with internal and external customers of the College.
• Desirable: Hold a valid driving license.

Responsibilities

• Carry out painting and decorating tasks including preparing surfaces, applying finishes and completing final coatings to detailed specifications.
• Evaluate and analyse walls, ceilings, doors, windows and other surfaces to determine treatment required.
• Fill holes and cracks, sand surfaces and clean before painting or wallpapering.
• Apply paint and finishes to interiors and exteriors of buildings across campus.
• Select and use appropriate tools and equipment while following safety guidelines.
• Coordinate removal of old paints, wallpaper and debris as part of surface preparation.
• Inspect completed work and perform touch-ups or corrections as needed.
• Maintain inventory of supplies and ensure stocks are replenished.
• Collaborate with staff, students and maintenance team to schedule tasks with minimal disruption.
• Stay updated on industry trends and best practices; suggest process improvements.
• Adhere to safety and disposal guidelines for hazardous materials.
