Job description

Trinity College is one of the largest Cambridge Colleges, occupying an extensive area in the heart of Cambridge with a considerable proportion of the estate being listed and with conservation status. It is home to around 720 undergraduates, 350 graduates, 190 Fellows and around 360 staff. The Works Department is a crucial central service department with a wide-ranging maintenance remit. Responsibilities include planned, cyclical and reactive works as well as conservation and compliance projects.

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Painter & Decorator to join our team, working across a diverse portfolio of modern and heritage (including listed) buildings. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who takes pride in delivering high-quality finishes while respecting the unique character of historic environments.

You will play a key role in maintaining and enhancing a range of properties, ensuring all work is completed to high standards, in line with conservation principles, organisational requirements, and health & safety regulations.

Key duties will include

  • Preparing and decorating surfaces using a range of paints, finishes and techniques
  • Carrying out internal and external decorating to a high standard
  • Working on restoration of heritage buildings using traditional materials
  • Completing modern refurbishment work, including spray applications

The successful candidate will be qualified to NVQ Level 2 (or equivalent) or have relevant experience. You should have proven decorating experience across modern and older properties and be skilled in surface preparation, finishing and wallpapering. You must have a good understanding of health & safety as you will be expected to follow health & safety regulations and maintain a clean and safe working environment. Being reliable, detail-focused and able to work independently or in a team are vital to success in this role.

Salary: £33,539 per annum plus additional benefits, which include subsidised gym, free lunch when on site and private health and dental care, subject to eligibility. We offer varied and interesting work across heritage and modern buildings, with the opportunity to develop specialist skills within a supportive team environment.

This is a permanent full-time post (39 hours per week Mon-Thurs 8am-5pm, Fri 8am-4pm).

Closing date for completed applications is Sunday 27 Sep 2026.
