Job summary

Guardian Jobs is seeking a Building and Maintenance Officer in Birmingham. You will support day-to-day campus operations, ensuring buildings are safe, well maintained and ready for teaching, learning and events.

You will collaborate with the Campus Operations team and contractors to keep facilities running smoothly and to support performing arts spaces. The role requires experience in facilities or maintenance, preferably with exposure to lighting and audio equipment, and a practical, proactive

Qualifications

• Experience in building, facilities, or maintenance roles.
• Experience in performing arts, theatre, or live events environments.
• Familiarity with lighting and audio equipment setup and troubleshooting.
• Strong communication, both written and verbal.
• Good digital skills and ability to use information systems.
• Solid knowledge of health and safety within facilities settings.

Responsibilities

• Maintain campus buildings and spaces to support teaching and events.
• Open/close buildings following procedures and security requirements.
• Coordinate with contractors and service teams to minimise disruption.
• Inspect and address maintenance issues; escalate when needed.
• Support performing arts spaces with safe, functional equipment.
• Record maintenance activities and inspections accurately.
• Provide first-line IT equipment support and basic troubleshooting.
• Assist with health and safety inspections and compliance checks.
