Qualifications

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD including 2D and 3D modelling techniques.
  • Experience in CAD/BIM coordination and familiarity with Autodesk tools.

Summary


Freedom is recruiting an experienced Electrical CAD Technician to join our Design team based at our Stowmarket office. This role focuses on producing CAD electrical layout drawings for substations ranging from 11kV to 400kV for Distribution Network Operators (DNOs) and private clients, along with additional CAD duties across the group.

This is an opportunity to develop your skills further within a supportive team, contributing to high-profile electrical infrastructure projects across the UK. You will be encouraged to work towards professional accreditation and stay up to date with the latest industry developments.

  • Producing primary HV plant design drawings for substation projects from 11kV to 400kV, in collaboration with Electrical Design Engineers.
  • Supporting the wider team by sharing knowledge and providing technical guidance when required.
  • Coordinating with internal stakeholders to ensure all design drawings meet project deadlines and client expectations.
  • Representing Freedom professionally at all times, helping to promote the company’s image and reputation.
  • Managing your own professional development, maintaining up-to-date knowledge of CAD technologies, industry trends, and best practice.

What We’re Looking For

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, including 2D and 3D modelling techniques.
  • Experience in CAD/BIM coordination and familiarity with Autodesk Revit, Navisworks, and MicroStation is desirable.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ideally a minimum of GCSE grade C (or equivalent) in Maths, Science, and English.
  • HNC in a relevant engineering or design discipline is preferred.
