The Opportunity

An established engineering business specialising in bespoke mechanical equipment and bulk material handling systems is looking to appoint a mechanically biased CAD Technician.

This is a hybrid position, typically requiring three days per week at the company’s new combined office and manufacturing facility near Melton Mowbray. You will work closely with the engineering and production teams to produce accurate 2D drawings and 3D models for bespoke equipment used across the water, wastewater, recycling, bioenergy, food processing and industrial sectors.

It is a varied opportunity where you will be able to see designs progress from initial concepts and detailed drawings through to fabrication, assembly and installation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Producing accurate 2D engineering drawings using AutoCAD
  • Creating and modifying 3D mechanical models and assemblies using Autodesk Inventor
  • Preparing fabrication, manufacturing and assembly drawings
  • Producing general arrangement drawings and detailed component drawings
  • Working from engineering specifications, calculations, sketches and existing designs
  • Supporting the design of bespoke conveyors, hoppers, silos, support structures and associated mechanical equipment
  • Producing bills of materials and supporting documentation where required
  • Liaising closely with mechanical designers, engineers and the manufacturing team
  • Updating drawings to reflect design changes and manufacturing requirements
  • Checking drawings for accuracy, dimensions and practical manufacturability
  • Maintaining drawing records, revisions and associated technical documentation
  • Supporting continuous improvements to existing products and designs
Ideally you’ll have:
  • Previous experience working as a CAD Technician, CAD Designer, Mechanical Draughtsperson or Design Technician
  • Practical working experience using both AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor
  • A mechanical engineering bias or background
  • Experience producing detailed manufacturing or fabrication drawings
  • The ability to create and amend 2D drawings and 3D models
  • A good understanding of engineering drawings, dimensions and tolerances
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to work accurately
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with design and manufacturing colleagues

Experience involving fabricated steelwork, structural steel, sheet metal, conveyors, machinery or mechanical handling equipment would be particularly useful, although specific bulk handling experience is not essential.

The Company

You will be joining a well-established specialist engineering business with more than 30 years’ experience designing, manufacturing and installing bespoke material handling and storage systems.

The company provides complete engineered solutions, taking projects from initial concept and detailed design through to in-house manufacture, installation and commissioning. Its equipment includes screw, belt and chain conveyors, storage silos, hoppers, mixers and other bespoke mechanical handling systems.

The business has recently moved into a new office and factory facility near Melton Mowbray, providing the opportunity to work closely with the people manufacturing and assembling the equipment you help to design.
