Job summary

Mitchell Maguire Limited is seeking a CAD Design Engineer to work on rail projects featuring GRP composite and aluminium building products in a Clacton-on-Sea setting.

The role requires extensive CAD experience in a technical design/manufacturing environment with knowledge of GRP/composites and fabrication processes, plus attention to detail and a project-led mindset.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience as a CAD Engineer in technical design or manufacturing.
• UK rail / Network Rail project experience is advantageous.
• Knowledge of GRP/composite structures and fabrication processes is desirable.
• Understanding of structural design principles and standards awareness.
• Project-led with ability to think laterally and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Design Engineer on rail projects using GRP Composite and aluminium products.
• Produce accurate 2D and 3D CAD drawings for platforms, walkways, access systems, and bespoke structures.
• Develop fabrication, installation and general arrangement drawings from client specs and requirements.
• Review drawings and design information; identify issues and implement changes to standards.
• Provide technical support to Sales, clients, Engineering and Manufacturing; close out design actions.

The role of the Design Engineer – Composite Building Products will involve:

• Design Engineer role working on a range of rail projects utilizing a high quality range of GRP Composite and aluminium building products

• Produce accurate 2D and 3D CAD drawings for rail platforms, walkways, access systems and bespoke structures
• Develop detailed fabrication, installation and general arrangement drawings from client specifications and engineering requirements
• Review drawings and design information, identifying issues, incorporating changes and ensuring compliance with relevant standards
• Provide technical support to Sales, clients, Engineering and Manufacturing, developing practical and commercially viable solutions
• Support IDC/IDR meetings, respond to technical queries and ensure design comments and actions are effectively closed out

The ideal applicant will be a Design Engineer – Composite Building Products with:

• Must have extensive experience as a CAD Engineer within a technical design, engineering, structural or manufacturing environment
• Ideally have experience working on UK rail / Network Rail projects
• Knowledge of GRP/composite structures, fabrication processes and structural design principles would be highly advantageous
• Project led with an ability to think laterally
• Strong attention to detail
