Job Advert in Colchester area seeks a CAD Technician to produce 2D and 3D drawings for GRP platforms, walkways and access structures within a Rail team. You will collaborate with Sales, Engineering and Operations to ensure designs meet standards.

The role requires reading specifications, checking against Network Rail and British Standards, and supporting project reviews. UK rail experience is advantageous; site visits may be required.

Qualifications

• Produces 2D and 3D general arrangement, fabrication and installation drawings for GRP platforms, walkways, access systems and structures.
• Reviews client specifications, surveys and existing drawings, and checks third-party drawings for clashes and queries.
• Checks drawings against project specifications, Network Rail standards and British Standards.
• Supports Sales at enquiry and quotation stage with technical advice on requirements, risks and manufacturability.
• Supports IDC and IDR meetings: prepares information, logs comments, and closes actions.
• Maintains drawing revisions and document control.
• Helps build a library of standard details and technical responses.
• Attends client meetings, design workshops and site visits as required.

CAD Technician | Colchester area | Up to £40,000 + potential bonus

An established UK manufacturer of GRP composite products, with more than 25 years in the market, is looking for a CAD Technician to join its Rail team.

They supply rail, infrastructure and industrial customers in the UK and overseas, with design and manufacture in-house. You'll produce rail and structural drawings for GRP platforms, walkways and access structures, and act as the link between Sales, Engineering and Operations.

The CAD Technician role

• Produce 2D and 3D general arrangement, fabrication and installation drawings for GRP platforms, walkways, access systems and structures


• Work from client specifications, surveys and existing drawings, and review third-party drawings for clashes, omissions and queries


• Check drawings prepared by colleagues or external designers against project specifications, Network Rail standards and British Standards


• Support Sales at enquiry and quotation stage, advising on technical requirements, risks and what can be manufactured and installed


• Support IDC and IDR meetings: prepare information, log and respond to comments, and see actions through to close-out


• Maintain drawing revisions and document control


• Help build a library of standard details and technical responses


• Attend client meetings, design workshops and site as required

What you'll need

• Background in a rail, structural, civil or engineering design environment


• Experience producing detailed fabrication drawings


• CAD competence: AutoCAD, Inventor, SolidWorks or similar


• Ability to read and interpret specifications and engineering drawings


• Good attention to detail and the ability to manage several projects at once

Helpful, but not all essential

• Network Rail or other UK rail project experience, and knowledge of Network Rail standards


• Experience with IDC/IDR or similar design review processes


• Knowledge of GRP or composite structures


• Understanding of structural design principles, load requirements and CDM Regulations 2015


• Experience working with contractors, consultants or infrastructure clients
