Job description

The Cable Operative will build and maintain new and existing core and distribution fibre networks, specifically fibre cable, sub duct pulling, and fibre blowing. The role involves heavy cable pulling, either with assist equipment or by hand, and identifying cables/parts of cables and sub ducts to be worked on in various locations and environments.

As part of a 2 or 3 person gang, the core responsibilities will be to:

1. Upgrade existing fibre networks through heavy cable pulling, sub duct pulling, and fibre blowing to client standards.
2. Build and maintain new and existing fibre networks either with assist equipment or by hand, identifying cables and sub ducts in various locations and environments.
3. Record changes and upgrades made, updating the client with details upon task closure.

There is a strong focus on health and safety, and you will be required to complete risk assessments and online forms via a company-provided tablet or mobile phone.

Skills and Qualifications

• Ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Ability to work within a team.
• Ability to prioritise, organise, and manage tasks.
• Well-presented with good presentation skills.
• Good IT skills, specifically Microsoft Excel and Word.
• Full Driving License.
• Approved Fibre/Sub Duct installation training; Confined Spaces City & Guilds preferred, along with relevant fibre cabling and blowing qualifications.
