Job summary

EE Limited in Watford is seeking a Cable and Harness Design Engineer for a 12-month contract. The role is hybrid with 2-3 days on site and involves designing cables and interconnects using Zuken E3.

You will interpret subsystem requirements, generate schematics, investigate issues, and support manufacturing with Windchill-based change management, aiming for robust, reliable interconnect solutions.

Qualifications

• Experience using E3 (2–5 years).
• Knowledge of cable products (E3.Formboard / E3.3D Transformer beneficial).
• Define, deploy and refine E3 processes and standards, including topology and 2D drawings.
• Develop and deliver technical instruction to E3 users.
• Understand product data management and change management (Windchill).
• Design cable assemblies considering electrical constraints (current, EMC, drops).
• Appreciation of cable assembly production/process engineering.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience with CREO Cabling and HarnWare is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Interpret subsystem requirements.

• Investigate cable problems and develop solutions solo or in a team.

Job Description

Overview of Department:

The role will be working within the Interconnects Team in Electronic Engineering (EE). EE aims to develop leading edge electronic engineering expertise, capabilities and technologies. The Interconnects Team forms a valuable part of this, tasked with providing a professional design service, embracing new and existing technology to meet quality and timescales, ensuring customer satisfaction.

The Interconnects Team are our Primary Technical Experts for Interconnectivity for the company and responsible for the design of cables and interconnecting mediums. We provide exemplary technical expertise and technological innovation while enjoying our design work.

Responsibilities:

• Interpret sub-system requirements
• Generate electrical schematics and cable design definitions utilising Zuken E3. Provide assistance, guidance, and issue resolution for E3 users and the ability to utilise & integrate Zuken E3 throughout the product development lifecycle
• Carry out investigations into a full range of cable problems and issues; developing and preparing solutions, either individually or as a member of a project team
• Provide guidance and support to other areas of the business in order to resolve any manufacturing issues, as well as supporting functional and environmental product trials.
• Read and/or support process development and capability improvement for Zuken E3 workflow.

Skillset / Experience required:

• A minimum 2-5 years' experience in the use of E3.
• Cable and related products (E3.Formboard / E3.3D Transformer beneficial).
• A proven ability to define, deploy, and refine processes and best practices within E3 - including; electrical topology, wiring schematics and 2D manufacturing drawing processes and standards.
• Proven ability to develop and deliver technical instruction to E3 users.
• Thorough understanding of product data management and change management within Windchill or similar.
• The ability to design cable assemblies based upon electrical constraints such as current, screening, signal types, volt drop, EMC and environmental requirements.
• An appreciation of cable assembly production/process engineering.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience of PTC CREO Cabling and HarnWare would be beneficial.
