Job summary

Amentum is seeking Control & Instrumentation Engineers to join the PPP delivery team at Birchwood or Cumbria. The roles support the expansion of C&I capability across multiple projects, with starts expected late 2026 or early 2027.

You will develop and review C&I engineering documentation, coordinate with other disciplines, and ensure alignment with safety case requirements and client standards. A strong emphasis on collaboration and delivering to programme milestones is required.

Qualifications

• BEng/MEng in Control & Instrumentation Engineering or equivalent experience with HNC/HND.
• Knowledge of industry standards for control systems, instrumentation and safety.
• Experience developing C&I engineering documentation and related design tools.

Responsibilities

• Provide C&I design support across project phases including prelim/detailed design, procurement, construction and commissioning.
• Produce and review C&I deliverables to meet programme deadlines and standards.
• Develop control and instrumentation systems, field instrumentation and plant interfaces.
• Prepare technical documentation such as control philosophies, instrument schedules and loop diagrams.
• Coordinate with supply chain to ensure compliance with Engineering Standards and respond to Technical Queries.
• Integrate C&I systems with other disciplines through BIM and design reviews.
• Support validation, verification, testing, and handover activities.

The Opportunity

Amentum is the Design and Engineering partner for Sellafield under the PPP (Programme and Project Partners). This is a 20-year arrangement to deliver ~£7bn of major projects. We are looking to recruit high value expertise from across regulated and comparable sectors to work in a collaborative environment. PPP is delivering major projects, site wide improvements and provision of supporting services.

We are now looking to build the Control & Instrumentation capability within PPP across all our Projects.

The Role

We are now expecting several projects to have exciting opportunities to recruit a Control & Instrumentation (C&I) Engineers to join the team in either Birchwood or Cumbria.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THESE ROLES ARE EXPECTED TO START LATER THIS YEAR/ EARLY PART OF 2027.

Responsibilities

• Provide Control & Instrumentation design support across all project phases, including Prelim/detailed design, procurement, manufacture, construction, commissioning and installation.
• Produce, update and review C&I engineering deliverables to programme deadlines and in accordance with applicable standards, regulations and client requirements.
• Support the development of control systems, instrumentation systems, field instrumentation and associated plant interfaces.
• Producing and reviewing engineering documentation including control philosophies, instrument schedules, data sheets, loop diagrams, block cable diagrams, interface schedules and system architectures.
• Work with the supply chain to ensure compliance with client Engineering Standards, respond to Technical Queries and support testing and acceptance activities.
• Integrate and coordinate C&I systems with other engineering disciplines through BIM and multidisciplinary design reviews.
• Ensure C&I design intent remains aligned with safety case requirements, functional requirements and project objectives, supporting validation and verification activities.
• Support commissioning, testing and handover activities to ensure systems are delivered safely and meet project requirements.
• Develop technical competence through collaboration with senior and lead engineers.

Qualifications

• BEng/MEng degree in Control & Instrumentation Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Electrical & Electronic Engineering or a relevant discipline, or demonstrable equivalent experience supported by an HNC/HND qualification.
• Professionally registered, or working towards registration, with a relevant professional institution.
• Demonstrable experience in a similar role. Previous Nuclear industry experience is highly desirable, although not essential where suitable transferable experience can be demonstrated.
• Knowledge of relevant industry standards applicable to control systems, instrumentation and functional safety.
• Experience developing C&I engineering documentation and specifications as well as design software and tools such as AutoCAD and associated C&I design packages.
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams
