Job Summary

Responsible for the selection, purchase, and delivery of merchandise that adheres to the merchandise philosophy of quality, price, fashion, and brand. Performs analysis to develop merchandise strategies and assortments.

Duties and Responsibilities
Market
  • Understand and implement negotiating skills.
  • Determine value through the edit/selection process, evaluating fashion, quality, price, and brand.
  • Decide quantities to buy according to OTB guidelines at a department, class, or item level, supporting events, features, and store profiles.
  • Identify and execute incentive purchases, utilizing product and technical knowledge.
  • Stay informed about market conditions related to price, resources, and fashion trends; react accordingly to impact sales and gross margin.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with vendors, both new and existing.
  • Visit stores and competitors to study merchandise mix, price points, new labels, and timeliness of merchandise.
  • Seek opportunistic purchases in the market.
Business Analysis
  • Conduct ongoing analyses to develop merchandise strategies and assortments using available systems.
  • Review orders to ensure competitive value and identify feature opportunities.
  • Identify needs and opportunities to formulate weekly market strategies.
  • Prepare analysis, samples, and information for strategy meetings.
Administration/Problem Resolution
  • Prepare and manage purchase orders, including follow-up and deliveries.
  • Handle multiple tasks, balancing departmental priorities, vendor communications, and correspondence.
  • Manage incentive purchases through all stages of sample approval, ensuring quality standards.
  • Supervise Merchandise Assistants.
  • Collaborate with merchandising and support teams to resolve issues.
Individual/Interpersonal
  • Create and maintain a work environment aligned with TJX values and policies, including Open Door and Diversity initiatives.
  • Treat colleagues with dignity and respect, supporting their development within Merchandising, Planning, and Allocation.
  • Encourage teamwork and support opportunities for staff development, such as store visits, trend discussions, and vendor negotiations.
