Job summary

CARBOLITE is seeking a dedicated Buyer to join the Purchasing Department on-site in Hope. You will secure goods, ensure uninterrupted supply, negotiate terms, and drive cost savings while collaborating with suppliers and internal teams to meet production needs.

Key responsibilities include managing supplier performance, supporting MRP activities, and maintaining accurate procurement records. This role requires on-site work and strong procurement and negotiation skills.

Qualifications

• CIPS Level 4 or equivalent purchasing qualification required.
• Experience in supplier selection, management and auditing in manufacturing.
• Proficiency with MRP/ERP systems and MS Office.
• Strong planning, organisation and negotiation abilities; good communication.

Responsibilities

• Purchase goods, materials, components and services to meet cost, quality and delivery requirements.
• Maintain continuity of supply and promptly communicate risks or disruptions.
• Negotiate supplier contracts, pricing and terms to deliver savings and value.
• Identify cost-reduction opportunities and apply effective procurement practices.
• Select, assess and manage suppliers including performance reviews and improvement plans.
• Build relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders to support business needs.
• Maintain procurement records, support MRP activities and KPI improvements.

We are growing and are therefore looking for further colleagues to strengthen our team at the earliest possible date as Buyer on site in our purchasing department reporting to the purchasing manager. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to make their mark on an exciting and varied role, and support the continued improvement to our supply chain. Applicants are sought to work within the Purchasing Department and will provide key procurement support to the Purchasing Manager and other areas of the business to ensure continuity and efficiency of production and supply.

Primary Responsibilities include:

• Purchase goods, materials, components and services to meet cost, quality and delivery requirements.
• Maintain continuity of supply and promptly communicate any risks or disruptions.
• Negotiate supplier contracts, pricing and terms to deliver savings and value.
• Identify cost-reduction opportunities and apply effective procurement practices.
• Select, assess and manage suppliers, including performance reviews and improvement plans.
• Build professional relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders to support business and customer requirements.
• Maintain accurate procurement records, support MRP activities, resolve invoice queries and contribute to process and KPI improvements.

Key Skills and Qualifications

• Ideally a CIPS Level 4 or an equivalent purchasing qualification, and/or HND, degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant subject.
• Experience in supplier selection, management and auditing, ideally in a manufacturing environment with knowledge of customs import/export procedures.
• Proficient in MRP or ERP systems and the Microsoft Office package.
• Strong planning, organisation and prioritisation skills combined with the great communication and negotiation abilities, both written and verbal.
• Ability to take ownership independently and work with minimum supervision, use initiative and manage competing priorities while also being a teamplayer.
• Ability to work from our site in Hope - please note, this is not a remote or hybrid role.
