Job description

Business Systems Manager - AI and Automation

Birmingham

We are looking for an experienced Business Systems Manager to lead how we use technology to improve the way the business operates.

This is a hands-on, commercially focused role centred on AI, automation, business applications, systems integration and process improvement. We are looking for a builder and problem-solver who can spot inefficiencies, understand the underlying business need and turn ideas into practical technology solutions that deliver measurable results.

A key focus will be AI and emerging technology. You will identify opportunities, develop and implement AI-enabled solutions and automate processes that improve productivity, data quality and the customer and employee experience.

You will own the development and continuous improvement of our business applications, working across Dynamics 365, Business Central, Microsoft 365, Power Platform, Power BI and Azure. You will also lead systems integration, APIs, data flows and the development of automated workflows and lightweight applications.

Working closely with senior leaders and teams across the business, you will translate business challenges into technology solutions and lead projects from initial idea and business case through to implementation and benefits realisation.

You will also manage key technology suppliers and development partners, ensuring solutions are delivered effectively, while contributing to technology due diligence and integration activity as the organisation continues to grow.

Ultimately, this role is about making technology work harder for the business — finding better ways of working, building the solutions to make them happen and delivering measurable improvements.

Requirements
Business technology and application development
  • Proven experience in a senior Business Technology, Digital Technology, Applications, Systems or Technology Transformation role.
  • A strong track record of building, implementing and improving business applications that have delivered measurable efficiencies, reduced manual processes or improved operational performance.
  • Demonstrable experience taking technology solutions from initial concept and business case through development, implementation and benefits realisation.
  • A strong understanding of how business applications, data and integrations fit together within a wider technology environment.
  • Eligibility to work in the United Kingdom.
AI, automation and emerging technology
  • Hands‑on experience of AI and automation, including implementing AI tools or AI‑enabled workflows within a real business environment.
  • An understanding of how AI can be applied to areas such as document processing, data analysis, knowledge management, reporting, workflow automation and customer or employee support.
  • An understanding of responsible AI implementation, including data privacy, security, appropriate use and output quality.
Systems integration and technical capability
  • Strong understanding of systems integration, APIs, data flows and business application architecture.
  • Practical experience working with REST APIs, webhooks, OAuth, middleware or iPaaS platforms.
Microsoft and business applications
  • Strong working knowledge of the Microsoft ecosystem, including Microsoft 365 and Azure.
  • Strong practical experience with Power Platform, particularly Power Automate, Power Apps and Power BI.
  • Strong working knowledge of Dynamics 365 and Business Central, including their configuration, development and integration with other business systems.
  • Experience developing management information, reporting and analytics solutions using Power BI or equivalent tools.
  • Understanding of application rationalisation, licensing, system lifecycle management and identifying opportunities to consolidate or replace applications.
Project and stakeholder management
  • Experience managing technology projects from concept and business case through to implementation and benefits realisation.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work with colleagues ranging from non-technical business users through to senior leadership and Board members.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to explain complex technology concepts in clear, commercially relevant language.
  • Experience managing third‑party suppliers and holding technology partners accountable for delivery, quality, cost and timescales.
  • Experience supporting post‑acquisition technology integration, including application consolidation, data migration and systems integration.
  • Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or a related discipline.
